Each offseason every GM will have exactly 2 Franchise Tags.
Before free agency you will have the option to use your franchise tags on two of your players that are about to hit free agency.
You are not obligated to use your franchise tags, BUT they cannot be saved for the following season. You either use them or you don't.
Players who have been designated a franchise tag will be labeled in the Free Agent Bidding thread so that everyone knows who these players are.
Once the bidding is done on a player that has been designated a franchise tag, the team that designated it gets the CHOICE to match the winning bid so that they can keep the player.
You will have the option to match and you may decline, BUT if you do decline you do not get an extra franchise tag.
If you do not have enough cap space or room on your roster, you will not be able to match. You won't receive an extra franchise tag either.
Franchise tags WILL NOT be allowed to be included in trades.
*Added 1-11-16 We will have a new compensation pick system in which the team signing a franchise tagged player loses a 4th round pick(or lowest/worst pick if they do not have a 4th). If a team has no picks in the current season they will lose their lowest/worst pick in the following season. Maximum of 1 lost pick no matter how many franchise tagged players they sign.
The team declining to match receives a compensation pick based on the AAS(Average Annual Salary) in which his franchise tagged player was signed for. The scale is below:
$5M or less = Compensation Pick After 4th round
$5.01M-$10M = Compensation Pick After 3rd round
$10.01M-$15M = Compensation Pick After 2nd round
$15.01M or higher = Compensation Pick After 1st round
You cannot trade your compensation picks but you can trade the player you drafted as soon as the draft is complete. Compensation picks are now tradable as of 1-22-18.
**Added 1-21-17 Order of comp picks at the end of each round will be determined by highest AAS. If there is a tie, the draft order will break it.
