Each minor league draft will be a 4 round pro style draft.
Draft order is based on regular season seeding for non playoff teams finishing 9th through 20th. 20th place gets 1st pick, 19th place gets 2nd pick and so on with 9th place receiving the 12th overall pick. The 4 teams that lose in the 1st round of the playoffs get picks 13-16 with the lowest seed getting the 13th and the highest of the group getting the 16th. The two teams that lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs get picks 17 and 18(lowest seed gets 17, highest gets 18). 2nd place gets pick 19. 1st place gets pick 20.
Draft picks can be traded.
You can draft any player that has less than 130 career MLB AB's, or 50 career IP for pitchers.
If they have exactly or more than 130 career AB, or 50 career IP they are not eligible and would have to be taken in free agency.
Players have to be signed by a real-life MLB team to be drafted in the minor league draft. (Example: No drafting high schoolers or 13 year old Dominicans)
If an international player or someone gets signed to an MLB team in real life during our minor league draft they will not be eligible to be drafted. They have to be signed by an MLB team and under the 130/50 limits AT THE START of the draft.
You have the option to not sign the player(s) that you draft.
*Added 1-16-17 Players drafted in the minor league draft will no longer get a $0.5M(6 year) contract. Instead their contracts will be structured like this:
Year 1 $0.5M
Year 2 $0.5M
Year 3 $0.5M
Year 4 $0.5M
Year 5 $1M Option
Year 6 $2.5M Option
Year 7 $5M Option
When cutting you owe 50% of years 1-4. Cuts for Years 5-7 are free as long as they are before the season. Basically in Years 5, 6 and 7 you are deciding whether or not to tender a contract to the player at that price.
Minor Leaguers drafted in years prior are grandfathered in at $0.5M(6 years). When cutting these guys you owe 50% of years 1-6.
